PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Specialist Operations Analysis role is crucial for driving continuous enhancements in operations performance and efficiency. This role involves conducting various analyses, such as data mining and process reviews, and engaging in discussions with strategic partners to identify performance issues and their underlying causes. The specialist also plays a key role in facilitating the development and implementation of solutions to address these gaps or opportunities. Additionally, they are responsible for ensuring that the solutions implemented are reflected in the future performance and targets through the development of supervising processes or tools.

 

Within the group, the specialist holds a cross-organization leadership position, working collaboratively with team members from different functions to effectively use their skills and capabilities as needed. Furthermore, this role extends beyond the group, as the specialist collaborates with the entire organization to drive sustained improvements in operations.

The ultimate goal of this position is to achieve tangible outcomes in terms of improved performance and efficiency. By identifying performance issues, defining and implementing effective solutions, and continuously supervising the results, the specialist gives to the overall success of the department and the organization as a whole.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead in the development, improvement, and publication of operations scorecards and dashboards. This involves collaborating with various team members to understand their requirements and handling these requirements through the IS team. Additionally, ensure the scorecards are of high quality by regularly reviewing and validating the information published for accuracy and completeness
  • Drive the understanding and utilization of the scorecard information to drive improvements on key measures. This requires actively engaging with customers across the organization to explain the metrics, benchmarks, and targets included in the scorecards. Additionally, work closely with partners to identify areas for improvement based on the insights provided by the scorecards and support them in developing strategies to address these areas
  • Apply statistical analysis techniques to perform in-depth analysis of operating metrics. This involves extracting and analyzing data to identify patterns, trends, and areas of underperformance. Based on the findings, make actionable recommendations for actions and initiatives that can be taken to improve performance. Collaborate with relevant teams to ensure these recommendations are successfully implemented
  • Further collaboration and knowledge sharing within the Operations Analysis team. Work closely with other members of the team to exchange insights, analytics, and best practices. Leverage the collective expertise and resources of the team to improve the efficiency and impact of individual projects or initiatives. This includes sharing insights developed by other team members and applying them to own projects when appropriate, to drive continuous improvement across the entire Operations Analysis function

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, operations management, analytics, or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in defining and implementing operations scorecards or similar performance measurement initiatives
  • Proficient in data analysis tools and software (such as Excel, Qlikview, Qliksense, PowerBI)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and draw actionable insights
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis methods and performance measurement frameworks
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information in a concise and understandable manner
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to effectively lead the development and publication of scorecards
  • Continuous improvement approach with a focus on driving operational excellence

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
