PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

 

The Field Placement Coordinator position is accountable for facilitating the CPKC new hire Conductor Trainee program in the field.  Provide mentoring and coaching to new hires on the skills and knowledge learned in the classroom setting.  Evaluate new hire Conductor Trainees on their knowledge, skills, and performance.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Schedule the trainees on assignments as per the template for each location and ensure they are called by CMC
  • Submit a report each week to the local Manager as to the number of trainees on the territory, assignments covered and any exceptions
  • Ride with each trainee a minimum of two/three times to monitor progress and submit formal written evaluations for each ride
  • Review each evaluation submitted by the conductor coaches. If any exception noted, take immediate action to correct
  • Provide territory specific instructions and administer test on same
  • Provide feedback and coaching as required regarding operating rules/changes, air brake handling, mechanical rules and electronic devices
  • Advise individuals on company policies, practices, and expectations to guide their behavior and decisions related to health and safety, quality of operations, and quality of outputs
  • Provide job specific information to applicants at job previews and Family Night; conduct interviews and provide recommendations regarding hiring decisions
  • Ride with each trainee after the last week of classroom training to qualify them on the job and submit a written formal evaluation; send a copy of each formal evaluation to the trainee's Manager.
  • Present 4 hour “mark-up” meeting to new hires to review job expectations, resources and tools for successful transition
  • Identify, design, and implement process improvements to achieve and exceed quality assurance targets
  • Conduct and document monthly proficiency testing (CAMS)
  • Perform a minimum of 5 safety meetings per month
  • Present a 4-hour FOPS safety roll-out class annually for all T&E employees
  • Facilitate orientation and coordinate schedules for all conductor transfers/boomers for new territories
  • Assist Trainmaster in performing check rides for Conductor Certification

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong knowledge of Operating Rules, Air brake and Mechanical Rules.
  • Strong knowledge of territory and work assignments.
  • CPKC Certified Conductor Coach preferred.
  • 5 years of CPKC experience in Running Trades preferred.
  • Minimum education - High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in the areas of public speaking, presentation, group leadership, planning and organizing either in professional or volunteer work an asset.
  • Ability to effectively instruct the necessary knowledge and skills associated with Conductor Trainee position.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and training.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact across functions and with persons at all levels within CPKC.
  • Applying oneself to be available for 24/7 operation.

Medical Requirements:

CPKC is committed to the safety and health of its employees and the general public.  This position is a safety critical/sensitive position; all new hires will be required to complete a pre-employment medical that includes a physical, vision, hearing, alcohol, and drug audit assessments. Qualification drug test(s) are also required.

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
