PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
As a member of CPKC's Engineering team performing preventative, corrective maintenance and repairs on company track structures. Track Labourers operate in a high production environment performing physical labour to build and maintain track and surrounding materials. Based on CPKC's discretion you can be placed in a Production or Maintenance position upon operational needs. Maintenance is a travelling position. You will travel across the territory, you will receive a rate premium, mileage, hotel accommodations, meal expenses, etc.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Physical labour may vary from moderate to heavy on an assigned area of track
- Replacing and repairing various track components including rails, railway ties, fences
- Adjusting the alignment and the surface of the track
- Responding to emergencies and track outages
- Pulling track spikes
- Applying rail anchors
- Shoveling crushed rock
- Employees must always remain focused and be willing to work in a team environment
- This position works shifts; start times are set on a weekly basis and may change daily if required. Daily work shifts can start at any time, night or day
- Work can be seasonal, and employees may be laid off at the end of the work season. Employees will be called back as needed (and in seniority order) for the next work season
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or general equivalency
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Valid driver’s license required: Commercial driver’s license would be considered an asset
- Moderate to heavy labour; bending & lifting to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
- Willingness to work unscheduled shift work in a 24/7 operating environment
- Willingness to take on 90 -100% requirements with lodging and meal allowance provided
- Proficient in communication (ability to provide clear and concise instructions/directions)
- An emphasis on safety is essential for all employees. This is a high-risk environment - working around heavy moving equipment

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Medical and Drug Testing
This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
