PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
As the Supervisor Rail Testing you will operate CPKC owned Walking Stick ultrasonic test equipment in Alberta.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Operate and maintain CPKC owned ultrasonic rail testing equipment on various segments on their assigned Region. This will include yard tracks and maintenance rail locations
- Maintain “Gateway” approach to rail testing and scheduling. Responsible for daily contact with the Roadmaster regarding ways to keep RFD equipment on schedule
- Co-ordinates the operation of the Rail Flaw equipment and rail replacement crew, if required
- Manage the daily operation of rail flaw detection equipment.
- Recommend testing guidelines, frequency and equipment requirements necessary to provide cost effective rail management adhering to company and governmental standards and ensure the safe passage of trains in compliance with the SPC and Red Book by issuing the appropriate protective slow orders
- Ensure all defects that are reported are marked in the field timely and checks that regional Engineering personnel are properly recording all rail failures
- Oversee daily cost control for the rail flaw detection program and provide advice for the development of rail flaw detection contracts and advice to the award of contracts
- Participate in the assessment, and compatibility for CP, new technologies pertaining to Rail Flaw Detection, ultrasonic testing of joint bars, non-stop rail flaw testing, or vision technologies, etc.
- Required to be on call on a regular basis outside of normal business hours and workdays
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Post-secondary education in related field is an asset
- Driver’s license
- Trained in Rail Flaw Ultrasonic testing
- Trained in Rail Flaw investigation techniques
- Network view and understanding of network operations
- Instrumentation and testing
- Information Technology
- Calmness under fire
- Ability to persuade for the overall betterment of the railway in situations where individual objectives may conflict
- Strong communicator across multiple functions
- Coordinating/ influencing

Management Conductor Program:
