Supervisor Intermodal and Automotive Operations

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Supervisor, Intermodal & Automotive Operations, you will lead and coordinate all external terminal operations to ensure efficient train handling, loading/unloading, and yard movements. Your focus will be on safety, performance, cost-effectiveness, and delivering exceptional service aligned with company standards and priorities.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Oversee yard operations to meet train schedules, customer expectations, and performance targets (foot/FEU)
  • Lead and direct terminal staff responsible for executing yard processes
  • Provide clear instructions for train movements and coordinate all yard activities including hostler, lifter, and truck operations
  • Maintain accurate and timely updates in operating systems
  • Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and communicated across shifts and teams
  • Address non-compliance and identify opportunities for process improvement; escalate issues as needed
  • Conduct safety activities including proficiency and efficiency testing
  • Manage terminal inventory within your area of responsibility
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, safety regulations, and collective agreements
  • Collaborate with internal teams including dispatch, field operations, mechanical, and engineering
  • Lead operations related to perishables, ensuring service excellence and safe execution of terminal plans

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma
  • Previous railroad or terminal operations experience is an asset
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement solutions
  • Proficiency in OASIS, Transportation Management System (TMS), MS Outlook, Word, and basic Excel
  • Solid understanding of applicable collective agreement.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to receive and apply constructive feedback
  • Flexibility to work on a 24/7 basis as required

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company or regulated drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
