PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Manager of Work Equipment and a key leader within CPKC's Engineering team, you will oversee the safe, efficient, and cost-effective maintenance of work equipment and vehicles in your territory. You will be responsible for organizing and managing resources, planning, and executing all repair activities in compliance with regulatory requirements and internal processes. Your role also includes providing comprehensive professional oversight to ensure alignment with corporate policies, regulatory standards, and engineering best practices. Through your leadership, you will drive the continuous improvement and reliability of work equipment operations within the organization.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Direct and monitor Work Equipment staff to ensure equipment and vehicle reliability while mentoring and coaching direct reports to enhance team effectiveness and support leadership development
  • Ensure strict adherence to CPKC safety practices, policies and procedures, participating actively in the Track Renewal Health & Safety Plan
  • Deliver specified financial results within assigned expense and capital budgets, while striving to improve financial and operational metrics
  • Oversee preventative and predictive maintenance (PPM) by scheduling equipment inspections and coordinating level three repairs based on evaluation reports
  • Ensure accurate work order management and maintenance record-keeping for all equipment
  • Maintain appropriate supply levels of parts inventories to meet operational targets
  • Lead implementation of new work processes and changes to drive continuous improvement in safety, service, productivity and personnel performance
  • Foster and maintain effective cross-functional working relationships with internal teams, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and regulatory agencies
  • Guide team in best practices to improve overall safety, service, productivity and financial results across operational areas

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5 + years of experience in railroad work equipment maintenance, with proven success in the field; heavy-duty mechanic journeyman certificate preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of heavy-duty equipment, maintenance practices, and signals & communications systems
  • Computer proficiency, including experience with CPKC systems such as SAP
  • Ability to apply technical skills and relevant knowledge to ensure compliance with CPKC policies, standards and regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including developing and managing project plans and schedules
  • Demonstrated experience leading a non-union and union workforce
  • Ability to simultaneously manage priorities and ensure delivery of key performance metrics during emergency and non-emergency operations
  • Skilled in inspiring and influencing peers, cross-functional collaborators, and the executive leadership team

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

 

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
