PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Manager Vehicle Fleet, you will provide strategic operational oversight for the Vehicle Fleet Team (VFT), ensuring a safe, efficient, and cost‑effective maintenance program across Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. You will lead the resources responsible for vehicle care, maintenance, replacement, and functionality, while supervising repair activities, audits, investigations, and vendor performance. You will also ensure full compliance with Federal, Provincial, and State regulations for vehicles and ancillary equipment, and develop specifications for light, medium, heavy‑duty, and specialized vehicles. This role is critical in maintaining operational reliability, regulatory compliance, and the overall safety of CPKC’s fleet operations.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Supervise and monitor the performance of suppliers or shops to ensure the accuracy and validity of repairs to drive reliability, safety and function of Vehicles, including vendor audits and participating in quarterly business reviews with key vendors
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing Vehicle Fleet team, providing ongoing guidance, performance feedback, and support to ensure operational excellence
  • Promote a strong safety culture by applying CPKC safety practices, investigating field‑reported issues, and ensuring fleet policies are applied consistently across all locations
  • Oversee vehicle maintenance and repair budgets, manage invoices and purchase orders, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and cost control
  • Support annual and multi‑year fleet planning by identifying replacement needs, defining asset specifications, and coordinating vehicle commissioning, decommissioning, and asset disposal activities
  • Ensure Vehicle work order management (ARI), maintenance records, and MATS updates are maintained and accurate
  • Build and maintain strong cross‑functional relationships with managers, operators, and regulatory bodies across all jurisdictions to support safe and efficient fleet operations
  • Oversee and manage regulatory licensing requirements for all fleet vehicles across Canada, the U.S., and Mexico

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience using computers and software such as Excel (for analysis), Word, and other MS Office applications
  • Experience with contract management, procurement, budget preparation, financial reporting, and SAP/Ariba (or equivalent) is an asset
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver key performance metrics in both emergency and non‑emergency situations

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
