PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Locomotive Distributor you will manage the day-to-day locomotive fleet distribution and allocations for an assigned territory within the Operations Centre (Canada) that supports the Operating Plan and Bulk Operating Plan, while meeting maintenance schedule and maximizing customer commitments and satisfaction thought efficient utilization. Please be advised that this position will require you to work 12hr shifts

 

 POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Allocate locomotive fleet on a day-to-day basis for an assigned territory that supports the Operating Plan and Bulk Operating Plan
  • Ensure locomotive maintenance schedules are met
  • Plan bad order enroute and overdue schedule maintenance locomotives to the assigned shop
  • Communicate daily locomotive plans via Locomotive Management and Planning (LMP), Standard Operating Practice (SOP) and any other means necessary
  • Ensure productivity levels are maximized by the efficient assignment of available fleet to plan and that locomotive consists meet the Operation Plan (OP) locomotive profile
  • Enter all data in a timely manner into locomotive management systems and ensure the integrity of the data
  • Enter order/supply variance data into NEXUS
  • Ensure accurate tracking of all foreign and offline locomotive usage by CPKC and connecting carriers
  • Ensure that other distribution demands, as directed by Director Locomotive Distribution and/or Superintendents, are met

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent industry knowledge
  • Experience with CPKC is required, positions within Mechanical services, Operations, Transportation or the Transportation industry
  • Geographic and/or commercial knowledge of CPKC system
  • Knowledge of applicable Transport Canada and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulation relating to train service would be an asset
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Strong technical abilities in regard to corporate operating systems/applications Nexus, Thoroughbred Yard Enterprise System (TYES), Thoroughbred Yard Enterprise System (CTC)
  • Ability to cope with stress and continue to deal effectively in emergent situations
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to function as part of a team
  • Required to work shift work, 24/7 365 days per year

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
