Analyst Commodity Tax (12 month contract)

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Reporting to the Manager, Commodity Tax, your primary duties will be to accurately prepare and file commodity tax returns and refund claims (including GST/HST, QST, PST and fuel tax). You will also analyze tax reports, tax account balances, and related documents to ensure the accurate accounting of the federal and provincial commodity tax liabilities and refunds. Additionally, you will assist in the completion of government commodity tax audits and refund reviews and provide general commodity tax advice to the business units.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Reconcile and analyze monthly tax account balances and details to confirm their validity and investigate variances
- Accurately prepare and file all assigned commodity tax returns prior to the legislated deadlines, as well as review and reconcile the related notices of assessment
- Review specific transactions for commodity tax compliance and minimization and making any appropriate adjustments
- Monitor and improve the commodity tax return process and identify commodity tax opportunities and exposures
- Respond to routine commodity tax queries from business units
- Assist in developing and executing commodity tax compliance and recovery initiatives
- Assist the Manager, Commodity Tax to assess the effects of commodity tax legislation changes, including maintaining and validating SAP tax logic
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or information technology or equivalent experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
- Minimum 1+ year of finance, accounting or tax experience
- Able to prioritize workload under tight and firm deadlines
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and communication skills

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
