PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Corporate Reporting Analyst or Specialist maintains full-cycle accounting of a CP partnership and supports the Corporate Reporting team’s activities.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Maintain full-cycle accounting for a CP partnership, which includes:
    • coordinate the processing of accounts receivable and payable;
    • communicate with managers and partners on expense and distribution approval as well as other accounting and business matters as needed;
    • complete monthly tasks for rail traffic calculation and analysis, GST filing, billing, cash distribution calculation and base ledger close;
    • prepare quarterly accruals, financial statements and forecast as well as annual budget and multi-year plan;
    • respond to ad-hoc requests from managers and partners;
    • identify and implement improvements that support timely and efficient reporting, forecasting and accounting processes for the Partnership;
  • Coordinate the assembly of the quarterly back-up binder;
  • Prepare monthly trial balance update and base tax entries for specific legal entities;
  • Support other corporate reporting activities, which may include:
    • verify the mathematical accuracy of reporting documents;
    • compilation of financial data into reportable documents or disclosures;
    • assisting in the roll forward and linking of reporting files;
    • preparing and entering consolidation entries;
  • Address and respond to queries from auditors and internal reviewers.

 

 POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Accounting (CPA) designation or registered in training towards an accounting designation;
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience required;
  • Knowledge of accounting and reporting cycles;
  • Knowledge of US GAAP (desirable);
  • Application Expertise (desirable): ERP/SAP, BPC, Excel, Workiva, Blackline;
  • Possess a strong attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced environment;
  • Quality verbal and written communication skills.
