PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Analyst or Specialist Income Tax will be a key contributor to the Canadian Pacific income tax team and will assist with various aspects of the tax function, including income tax accounting and reporting, income tax compliance, and income tax audits. The successful candidate will show a demonstrated passion for excellence and thrive on challenges, while working closely with the tax team and other members of CP’s finance team to support business needs

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual Canadian tax provision calculations;
  • Assist with the quarterly and annual tax related reporting and disclosures for financial statement purposes;
  • Assist with the preparation of return to provision calculations and work with accounting to ensure provisions are timely and accurately booked;
  • Assist with the preparation of domestic and international tax compliance filings, including Canadian corporate income tax returns and tax information returns, gathering data and preparing documentation for the files. Support the US tax group in meeting their reporting and compliance obligations as needed;
  • Assist with gathering supporting documentation for, and preparing responses to, government audit queries;
  • Work with internal departments to gather data and timely prepare country by country reporting documentation as required by relevant tax authorities;
  • Establish and maintain well-documented files to support tax provision, tax reporting and compliance.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Accounting, or other relevant fields;
  • Recognized accounting designation (CPA/CA/CMA/CGA);
  • Accounting or tax experience (2-3 years for analyst, 3-5 years for specialist);
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills;
  • Developed and demonstrated strong/thorough analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Detail oriented, driven to excel and demonstrates leadership ability;
  • Strong time management skills to juggle competing priorities;
  • Strong commitment to deliver high quality work while meeting deadlines;
  • Highly motivated, results focused and shows initiative and personal accountability;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with individuals at all levels of the organization as well as with external advisors;
  • Commitment to learning;
  • Experience with TaxPrep software and SAP is an asset;
  • Knowledge of US GAAP Accounting;
  • High degree of flexibility and creativity to adapt to constantly changing work priorities.
