PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Assistant Director Signals & Communications (S&C) Operations will provide leadership and oversight for both unionized and salaried S&C employees. The successful candidate will be responsible for all phases of the work such as testing, planning, material handling, inventory control and management of signal apprentices.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Develop an achievable integrated maintenance plan that delivers to S&C standards
- Accountable for all maintenance and construction activities within their territory including recommending capital upgrades for the region
- Oversee testing services that create a safe, reliable, maintainable S&C plant on schedule and under budget
- Fully utilize the collective agreement for effective work management
- Assist with preparation of subcontract scope of works
- Oversee S&C employees in the apprenticeship program
- Ensure compliance with CPKC maintenance testing and commissioning standards and work methods
- Oversee CPKC’s health and safety plan for their region
- Provide mentorship and coaching to S&C leaders and craft employees by providing technical guidance and building expertise to enhance team capability and performance
- Exhibit reliability and flexibility in supporting a 24/7 operational environment, responding quickly to emergencies to mitigate service interruptions
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or general equivalency
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in Electrical Engineering is an asset
- 10 years of S&C maintenance, construction and testing and commissioning experience
- Valid driver’s license
- Proven ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats, ensuring clarity, professionalism, and successful information exchange

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Medical and Drug Testing
This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
