PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Data Architect, you will play a key role in driving the organization's data and analytics transformation by designing and delivering modern, scalable data solutions that turn complex data into actionable business insights. Working within the Business Intelligence & Data Analytics team, you will collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to architect robust data platforms that support reporting, advanced analytics, real-time data processing, and emerging AI and Machine Learning initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity to influence enterprise data strategy, leverage cutting-edge technologies, and enable data-driven decision-making across the organization while helping shape the future of analytics and innovation.

This is a 1-year Fixed Term Contract

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Design, maintain, and continuously evolve scalable data architecture, data warehouse frameworks, and end-to-end data pipelines that support Business Intelligence, reporting, analytics, and predictive modeling
  • Define and enforce data modeling standards while innovating, transforming, validating, creating, and optimizing data sources to ensure data quality, consistency, and usability across the enterprise
  • Standardize and automate reporting solutions while developing a deep understanding of existing Business Intelligence platforms and business data needs
  • Build tools, processes, and governance frameworks that strengthen data management, improve data integrity, and support scalable analytics capabilities
  • Partner with business analysts, architects, developers, and stakeholders as a liaison between business and technical teams, translating requirements into effective data solutions and architecture roadmaps
  • Drive continuous improvement by analyzing business needs, recommending and implementing efficiencies, presenting solutions to diverse audiences, managing stakeholder relationships and priorities, and contributing to AI and Machine Learning initiatives that enable advanced analytics and actionable insights

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 6+ years of experience in data architecture, data management, data modeling, schema design, database optimization, data mining, data preparation, visualization, and process development
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Snowflake Data Cloud, including Snowpipe, Streams, Tasks, and the design and implementation of modern data warehouse architectures
  • Proven experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT frameworks, data flows, and scalable data integration solutions using SQL and database technologies
  • Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality, and architectural best practices, with demonstrated expertise applying data analysis to reporting, modeling, and AI/ML initiatives
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to interpret complex data, present insights to technical and non-technical audiences, work independently, and develop effective plans aligned to business objectives and priorities
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
