PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Director Corporate Accounting leads and develops teams of professional accountants that sustain and improve accounting and reporting activities associated with treasury, compensation, leasing, investments, and other corporate activities.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Oversee the detailed accounting and reporting activities in order to support rapid and accurate period-end close and continuous improvement thereto
  • Maintain exemplary relationships with the multiple stakeholders that support the accounting and reporting process (treasury, HR, Payroll, labour relations, business groups, taxation, information systems, investees) or require its output (forecasting, business groups)
  • Provide secondary support for review of journal entries and reconciliations, as needed
  • Review financial analysis on monthly and quarterly data
  • Review quarterly and annual external disclosures associated with team scopes, and XBRL reporting of the financial statements
  • Oversee the development and execution of comprehensive workplans
    • identifying monthly, quarterly and annual activities for the team
    • identifying and prioritizing risks and opportunities, and designing adequate responses
    • designing and implementing new controls, including periodic report testing
    • documenting activities
    • developing and improving value of analysis and reporting to internal users.
  • Coach, supervise and develop direct reports
  • Oversee and review assessments of technical accounting literature in relationship to significant financial transactions, identify alternatives, and document positions
  • Ensure accounting and reporting processes comply with applicable internal control (SOX) requirements
  • Review budgets and forecasts prepared by teams under scope and drive continuous improvements thereto
  • Oversee the design and sustainment of processes associated with integration of new entities
  • Ensure financial reporting and disclosures related to team scope are in compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), tax, securities regulation, and SOX

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Accounting Designation: CPA, with 10+ years of experience, including public company financial reporting and/or audit experience
  • Knowledge of US GAAP/IFRS; Ability to interpret complex accounting policies and accounting treatment and translate to business application
  • Communication skills both verbal and written
  • Management and leadership skills including coaching, motivating, resilience, team building, change management, and process reviews
  • Possess a strong attention to detail and accuracy, ability to set and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work as a key team member in cross functional teams, obtain consensus/agreement on recommendations

Management Conductor Program:
