Director Transload Operations & Strategy

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Director Transload Operations & Strategy you are responsible for the leadership, strategic direction, long-term development, management and delivery of CPKC’s Transload Services in the United States and Canada on both CPKC and non-CPKC infrastructure (including short-lines and off-line origins or destinations).  Key responsibilities includes developing facility based value-added services beyond the basic transfer and delivery, and\or to develop specialized facility-based transfer and delivery services to handle new commodities.  In addition, the position will be responsible for Administrative duties (Budget setting, Variance Analysis, Executive reports for Enabled Revenue, P&L and opportunities management) with other duties as required.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide Leadership and strategic direction of Transload activities in US and Canada
  • Develop and execute the Transload growth strategy
  • Develop new or expand existing facilities by assisting in conceptual design, coordination of supporting activities regarding business case development, budget/capital assessments, preparing relevant appropriations and contracts and ensuring on-time and on-budget completions of the capital or expense projects
  • Oversee operators service contracts negotiations in accordance with vendor management best practices. Relationship Management with operators
  • Develop and monitor of budgets and targets
  • Develop & Manage reports to CPKC executives from P&L, Revenue, opportunities and variances to budgets
  • Lead the research and analysis of technological and operational developments to facilitate the handling of new commodities/products or to reduce the cost of handling existing business or increase the capacity and/or productivity of existing facilities
  • Monitor, assess and review facility operations and safety practices
  • Ensure all operators are performing tasks safely and in accordance with CPKC policies and all appropriate safe handling practices.
  • Identify and implement business key process improvement to realize cost efficiencies
  • Enhance organizational effectiveness and cross functional development of strategy
  • Build and mentor support team. Develop people with CPKC values as future leaders
  • Complete operator assessments on safety, productivity, and quality of services

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a University Degree or equivalent
  • Must possess a minimum of 5 years of transportation experience with at least 3 years of leadership experience   
  • Possess a strong understanding of rail operations
  • Understanding of logistics and transload operations – equipment, technology, best practices, etc
  • Strong understanding of risk management
  • Knowledge of Markets. Market Development. Opportunity management and relationship building with Lines of Business to maximize organizational effectiveness
  • Understand construction and engineering requirements to build, maintain or modify transload facilities
  • Must possess verbal communication and influence skills up to Vice-President levels internally, and to CEO with customers, suppliers and industry companies
  • Relationship building cross-functionally and internally
  • Strong execution skills
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration capability

Management Conductor Program:
