PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
As Director Vehicle Fleet and Transportation, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Vehicle Fleet Team (VFT), ensuring effective management of the complete lifecycle of over 4,200 vehicles across various fleets. This role involves driving strategic capital planning, capital plan execution, regulatory compliance, budget management, safety initiatives, and fleet improvement programs, as well as implementing industry best practices. Additionally, the position holds accountability for ground transportation logistics, cross-border brokerage services, and related budget spend, supporting CPKC’s operational and material movement needs while maintaining superior efficiency and governance standards.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Lead the Vehicle Fleet Team (VFT) in the management associated with the full life cycle of all 4,200 Engineering, Mechanical, T&E, CPKC Police and Intermodal vehicle fleets in Canada, US and Mexico
- Direction and input to the annual and multi-year replacement/capital planning processes, determining the level of funding required, the assets to be replaced and the required type of new replacement asset to meet CPKC’s needs
- Meet regulatory requirements such as Federal Commercial Vehicle regulations and Commercial Vehicle Driver regulations
- Establish and communicate the annual and multi-year expense and capital operating budgets, including fuel, maintenance/repairs and lease/rental costs
- Identify and lead safety initiatives and adherence to fleet processes and safety related items such as vehicle recalls, safety alerts and technical service bulletins
- Development of metrics and the management of the vehicle fleet improvement programs
- Manage Ground transportation of material for CPKC and related billing and spend to the Transportation Budget
- Manage brokerage service for material crossing between US/Canada/Mexico
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, finance, or a related field
- 15 years overall progressive experience within procurement, material management, field logistics, fleet management, vehicle fleet within an operations setting, (preference given to candidates from the transportation or other related industry)
- Minimum 7-10 years of leadership experience
- Valid passport with ability to travel to U.S./CAN/MX without restrictions
- Proficiency with MATS and SAP (especially the Material Management module and data retrieval)
- Demonstrated competencies in communication, teamwork, project management, decision making/problem solving; customer focus, organization and planning, results focus, data analysis and strong business knowledge.

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
