PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Geotechnical Engineering Field Manager is responsible for planning, inspecting, designing, executing geotechnical projects, and addressing issues affecting railway infrastructure. The role ensures safe operations and aligns with CPKC's objectives. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter, motivated, adaptable, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks effectively. Strong communication and presentation skills are also essential for success in this role. This is headquartered in Calgary.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provide real-time system-wide emergent response and support for incidents involving slope/roadbed failures, debris flow/washouts, and other geohazard events by delivering engineered, practical-based solutions to reinstate operations as necessary
- Up to 50% travel across the CPKC network in Canada and the U.S.
- Plan, coordinate, manage, and participate in periodic follow-up field inspections and system-wide annual rock slope inspections
- Manage contracts for soil stabilization projects and rock slope stabilization program, and act as CPKC technical expert
- Participate in the development of single-year and multi-year budget requests for management of geohazards including but not limited to soil/rock slope, tunnel, debris hazards
- Perform inspections to collect information and verify contractual requirements for Capital or Special Maintenance Authority (SMA) projects
- Plan, cordinate, manage, and participate in system-wide tunnel inspections
- Act as CPKC’s internal geotechnical expert to complete reviews and provide advice to internal stakeholders
- Lead and manage CPKC’s unique and one-of-a-kind water body hazard program
- Provide on-call support and emergency response on a rotating cycle to support 24/7 operations
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- University undergraduate degree with specialization in Geology, Geotechnical, Geological or Civil Engineering
- Valid driver's license
- Must be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer/Geoscientist
- 6+ years of engineering experience in geotechnical or geological engineering
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Experience with tactically handling incident response work

Medical and Drug Testing

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
