The GIS Technician will play a crucial role in our organization by being responsible for gathering, understanding, executing, and documenting various business processes related to GIS. They will utilize GIS tools to effectively deliver cartographic materials in various formats such as print, digital, and interactive GIS Portal layers/maps. In addition to this, they will leverage off-the-shelf builders to develop GIS apps and ensure efficient data delivery as a power user in the GIS Enterprise space.


Key responsibilities will be to actively participate in the analysis, compilation, and cleansing of rail data to support informed business decision-making. Collaboration with GIS developers is essential in working closely together to achieve project goals. Furthermore, they will handle Data Extract requirements from business stakeholders, ensuring the accurate extraction of relevant information.


The GIS Technician will leverage their extensive knowledge of both the business domain and GIS to drive solutions and facilitate organizational change. In this capacity, they will document requirements and specifications necessary for designing, recommending, and implementing process improvements using the ESRI Enterprise GIS stack, encompassing not only spatial data but also other relevant components. They will develop innovative solutions utilizing multiple technology platforms within the GIS realm in order to align with the organization's overarching objectives.


Adhering to industry best practices, the GIS Technician will ensure that their solutions are deployable, scalable, and easily supported within our growing organization. They will also assume responsibility for the maintenance and support of both existing and newly implemented solutions, contributing to the continued success of our GIS initiatives.


  • Create cartographic Prints, pdfs, presentation level and interactive Maps using GIS Desktop and Server tools
  • Work with data schemas, spatial data, non-spatial data consumed by GIS
  • Perform QA/QC in support of day-to-day operational data change requests (Data Change Management)
  • Troubleshoot incidents or defects that arise in supported applications and ensure a timely resolution. Ensure that all stakeholders are updated on progress
  • Apply a variety of techniques to elicit and gather business and user requirements from stakeholders.
  • Perform analysis of existing GIS solutions to understand how they function. Further using this analysis to identify areas for design improvement and/or resolve incidents.
  • Participate in on-call rotation support


  • Bachelor's Degree Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Geomatics or related discipline.  
  • 1-3 years of experience in principles, concepts, practices, techniques and tools in the areas of GIS.  Using ESRI as core software.



  • Good problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent understanding of GIS Best practices 
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, etc)
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task various assignments
  • Proficiency in any of the following areas is preferred: ABAP programming, S/4HANA, SAP Fiori,
  • Detailed system knowledge in customisation and configuration of supported systems
  • Familiarity with the Application Project Development Lifecycle
  • Strong process driven background and process improvement orientation

Management Conductor Program:
