PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Internal Auditor supports different internal audit teams in the execution of their responsibilities. The auditor will be assigned to different audit projects across CPKC’s operations audit, financial/corporate audit and IS audit groups. You will report to a mentor who will assist them in acquiring experience in support of obtaining a certification or designation that is valuable in the field of Internal Audit. Your key contributions will include identifying opportunities for improvement, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, and safeguarding the company's assets. Through your work, you will play a vital role in enhancing operational performance and strengthening risk management practices at CPKC. Additionally, you will have the chance to establish relationships with leaders across the organization, refine your communication abilities, and further develop your leadership skills, all while making a meaningful impact on the organization.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Plan and conduct operational audits and advisory engagements in accordance with the Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS) and CPKC’s Internal Audit Manual
- Conduct risk assessments
- Design and execute audit procedures, including evaluation of audit evidence gathered from internal audit clients against the subject matter under audit
- Identify audit observations and root causes
- Prepare working papers with appropriate levels of detail and clarity
- Generate clear and concise audit reports summarizing findings and recommendations
- Leverage data, analytics, and available tools to enhance audit coverage and efficiency and identify value-added insights for management
- Obtain and demonstrate an understanding of the complex systems, processes, risks, and controls that are relevant to the business units being audited
- Build and maintain relationships with business partners at all levels. Provide advice and share knowledge with these business partners to strengthen governance, risk, and control environments and to improve processes efficiency and effectiveness
- Monitor the outcomes of previous audits and evaluate whether adequate corrective actions have been implemented to address significant risks or issues
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate degree or college diploma in the following areas of study: Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, Information systems, etc.
- While at CPKC, the candidate will be expected to register in training towards a certification or designation valuable in the Internal Audit space: Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Information Systems Auditor, Chartered Professional Accountant
- Valid passport with the ability to travel occasionally to the U.S.

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
