PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Manager - Project Planning position provides project support to Field Engineering through the planning and coordination of track and structures projects and to create, monitor and analyze capital and SMA projects. The successful candidate supports the success of the overall portfolio of projects within their territory, providing insight and guidance to Project Managers.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Prepares all SAP project networks for Regional Capital Projects and Special Maintenance Authorities (SMA) for TR&E/Division/Structures/Special Projects and guides through internal project approval process;
  • Creates and manages all 3rd party service requests related to capital work in their territory in accordance with corporate policy, being aware of all contracted work and supporting Field Managers in the processes related to successful procurement;
  • Monitors and analyzes the expenditures on capital and SMA projects, develops monthly year-end projections and provides variance analysis. Monitors the labor and material expenditures for all projects in conjunction with managers ensuring the charges are properly distributed within budgetary guidelines and corrective action is taken where required to meet budget and time requirements;
  • Coordinates, prepares and submits month end and year accruals and renewals as required for projects;
  • Reconciles project expenditures upon project completion and assists in close out process;
  • Provides materials planning and coordination for TR&E/Division/Structures/Special projects;
  • Resolves problems with ordering, traces late and missing material, ensures delivery and receipt occurs and advises of potential delays in material delivery and revised delivery dates. Ensures material for projects is properly issued in a timely manner;
  • Verification of material orders helping ensure material quantities and material types are correct before order is released;
  • Support process improvement related to system upgrades, reporting and analysis;
  • Ad-hoc duties as assigned.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Accounting designation, Business Degree, or equivalent preferred;
  • Knowledge of Engineering and Track would be an asset;
  • Proficient in Excel;
  • Strong understanding of SAP systems would be an asset;
  • Capability to develop, manage and monitor planned projects using SAP and BW;
  • High degree of financial acumen with demonstrated analytical skills;
  • Influencing skills with peers and coaching skills with subordinates or Engineering staff;
  • Ability to work independently, managing time and schedule to effectively meet deadlines;
  • Ability to clearly communicate.
