PURPOSE OF POSITION

 

The Manager Technical Training – Engineering is responsible for the delivery of training for Engineering and managing the instructors to deliver to the plan.  They also are responsible for ensuring the design and implementation of training programs for Engineering is consistent. Manager responsibility includes developing and implementing yearly training plans, managing workforce to deliver to the plan and meeting regulatory and customer service requirements. The Manager Technical Training is accountable to the Director, Training and operates within the context and prescribed limits.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Accountable for the planning and delivery of training for their client group in support of the business strategies and performance improvement targets for Engineering;
  • Accountable for identifying yearly training requirements and providing an organization to deliver the training cost effectively that meets business strategies;
  • Manage the planning processes for the delivery of initial training, certification training, recurrent training skill upgrade of new hires and existing employees;
  • Accountable for budgets. Prepare Technical Training for their function for approval by senior management and manages budgets. Develop SMA requests for Engineering approval and manages approved SMA’s;
  • Accountable for the developing training plans with strategic partners and training providers;
  • Accountable to manage the entry of training records into training system for training provided to Engineering;
  • Accountable to ensure consistency in training design for Engineering;
  • Accountable to develop appropriate organization structure to meet Engineering’s training and implementation needs;
  • Accountable for improving training processes in Engineering;
  • Accountable for maintaining, facilitating, and leading the STI (Supervisor Track Inspection), LMT-E (Leadership Management Training - Engineering) programs, and other programs as necessary;
  • Accountable for building, maintaining, managing, and leading the LMT-E program; and
  • Instill and deliver a safe work environment by ensuring all government regulations affecting workplace health and safety are complied with.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school with post-secondary education in Adult Education preferred;
  • Previous work experience in railroad Engineering;
  • Previous training experience is preferred;
  • Minimum of 5 years of railroad field experience leading a team, with excellent safety record;
  • Hold a valid driver license;
  • In-depth experience in Engineering’s work activities;
  • Understanding of Adult Education Principles is preferred;
  • Leadership experience;
  • Understanding of Instructional Design process is preferred;
  • The ability to apply business acumen to area of accountability;
  • Planning, Consulting and Negotiation Skills;
  • Interpersonal skills with client groups and unions;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate with senior executives;
  • Proven ability to manage multiple schedules and hold people accountable;
  • Proven exceptional time management skills, detail oriented;
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and respond effectively to unexpected situations and tight deadlines;
  • Have a high sense of urgency, ability to prioritize work, and make decisions in alignment with CP’s Values and 5 Foundations;
  • Highly organized and excellent working knowledge of MS Office products (Outlook, excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint);
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends and be available 24/7 to respond to operational requirements; and
  • Must be able to travel periodically.

Management Conductor Program:
