PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
As Manager, Compensation you will play a key leadership role within the Total Compensation team. Reporting to the Director, this strategic role champions the design, delivery, and evaluation of compensation programs to ensure they align with our business strategy, support talent attraction and retention, and maintain market competitiveness and internal equity. This position provides an opportunity to join one of Canada’s largest companies driving compensation programs for over 20,000 employees and executives spanning three countries and is based out of our corporate head office in Calgary, AB.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Lead the design, analysis, and administration of broad-based compensation programs, including base salary structures, short-term and long-term incentive plans
- Manage cyclical programs such as annual salary planning, Short-Term Incentive Plan (STIP), and Sales Incentive Plan (SIP)
- Partner on the execution of Long-Term Incentive Plans (LTIPs), including Stock Options, Performance Share Units (PSUs), Deferred Stock Units (DSUs), and Restricted Share Units (RSUs)
- Provide consultation and analytical support on compensation decisions, including new hire offers, promotions, and pay adjustments
- Conduct job evaluations and market pricing to support job architecture, pay equity, and salary band development
- Partner with HR Business Partners, Finance, and senior leaders to provide guidance on compensation strategies, offers, and internal equity reviews
- Prepare reports and presentations for senior executives, including materials for the compensation committee
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, disclosure requirements, and internal governance policies across all jurisdictions
- Lead, mentor and support team members in delivering high-quality work and stakeholder service
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field, Certified compensation professional (CCP) designation an asset
- 5+ years of progressive compensation experience, with exposure to incentive plan design and equity-based programs
- Min. 1 year leadership experience or a proven track record as a senior compensation professional who is looking to step up into a leadership role
- Experience in a publicly traded, global or cross-border environment preferred
- Strong analytical and Excel skills; experience with compensation surveys and HRIS platforms (SAP, SuccessFactors)
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
