PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Manager, Financial Planning, is a strategic leader who will lead a group of individuals responsible for the financial planning and forecasting for CPKC. Working cross functionally with operating business units and internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization, this position has a key role in providing financial guidance and insight to the business. The role’s key focus is on driving financial performance through the volume adjusted budgeting process, accurate forecasting and providing financial analytical insight.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Translate operational changes into a financial forecast with a focus on accuracy and insight
  • Responsible for the financial performance of several operational business units
  • Build partnerships and maintain strong relationships with senior operations leaders
  • Proactively identify and resolve complex issues
  • Provide leadership to a group of Specialists and Analysts, coaching and developing future leaders
  • Responsibility for the monthly forecasting and annual budgeting process for all teams, this involves a high level of communication and collaboration with numerous groups
  • Responsibility for continually improving reporting and analysis, using all available systems to further automate key reports
  • Work closely with the operations to understand how the business operates, and identify opportunities for improved financial performance, driving financial accountability
  • Work closely with Revenue Business Partners and reporting to translate revenue changes into expense forecast updates and budget
  • Coordinate and review timely reporting to executive team on financial performance, outlooks and financial targets
  • Be a positive force for change, always looking for opportunity to partner with the operations teams to continually improve the company’s financial performance

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance or other relevant field
  • 5+ years in a Finance related role, preferably with an operational focus
  • 3+ years of experience supervising a group of Finance professionals
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems
  • Excel modelling skills
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor
  • Experience influencing senior leadership up to the EVP level

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
