The Manager Network Operations – LAN/WAN will be a leader/service owner in a team responsible for the operational availability (level 2), integrity and performance of network infrastructure services to support the delivery of IS services. Specific network services include LAN/WAN, Private Fiber services, Trackside services, Positive Train Control (PTC) Services, and network management tools. 




  • Management of network services operations;
  • Ensures 7x24 operational support across CP’s network infrastructure including the provision of on-call support staff to support service availability;
  • Ensures consistent configuration management, version control, asset management and application of fixes/patches in accordance with defined architecture and associated standards; 
  • Guides the development and sustainment of consistent processes, procedures, and standards to support network operations, including network security;
  • Manages a geographically dispersed Network Operations team including budgeting, scheduling, business direction, education/training, and career development of staff;  
  • Guides the integration of new data network services and service enhancements to meet changing business needs;
  • Develops, implements, and maintains data network policies and procedures as/when applicable;
  • Manages network vendors and associated contracts in the delivery of Data Network Operations;
  • Collaborates with other stakeholders in the development of new network services, including:  Senior Designers (Network), Project teams and Managers, Supporting network services (Firewall, Voice), Enterprise Security and External vendors and service providers in the development, delivery and implantation of new solutions and services;
  • Participate in new service implementations;
  • Update technical documentation and processes to ensure proper functioning and maintenance of all network devices, and associated infrastructure (network diagrams, implementation plans, operational guidelines, etc.);
  • Monitor network performance and integrity, bring forward operational improvements, capacity and scalability enhancements;
  • Configure and install software on; routers, switches, WiFi controllers and other network devices;
  • Guide / engage selected telecommunications vendors to restore LAN/WAN/Internet services;
  • Ability to utilize; network diagnostic, monitoring and automation tools (SolarWinds, BMC).

  • Degree / Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, Networking or equivalent work experience;
  • 7 years of operational network support in an enterprise network environment;
  • 2 years of people management experience
  • Cisco certification  - CCNA or CCNP or CCIE;
  • ITIL expertise and/or certification;
  • Advanced knowledge of WAN solutions, protocols, topologies, vendor solutions, network design methodologies and architectures, LAN switching, hardware, and troubleshooting methodology;
  • Strong understanding of Incident Management, Change Management, Problem Management, Knowledge Management;



  • Aruba, Ubiquiti, Digi, Nokia, experience and knowledge would be an asset;

Management Conductor Program:
