PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
As an Occupational Health Nurse at CPKC, you’ll play a crucial role in empowering employee wellbeing and operational safety across the U.S. and Canada, ensuring alignment with federal regulations and company policies. You will promote health programs, innovative health solutions to ensure workforce well-being and resilience in a fast-paced railway setting. From driving return-to-work strategies, fitness-to-work assessments, and drug and alcohol screenings to promoting compliance and wellness programs, your impact will reach employees at every stage of their career.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Develop and maintain fitness-to-work medical policies and procedures that address employee readiness, ensuring alignment with operational needs
- Manage employment and periodic medical assessment programs, supporting employees and prospective hires in their health journeys across the U.S. and Canada
- Coordinate disability management and return-to-work programs, encouraging resilience, recovery, and successful reintegration into work following illness or injury
- Champion drug and alcohol programs, embedding safety and compliance into our operations while promoting a culture of accountability
- Collaborate across teams to align health initiatives with CPKC’s Health Services protocols, ensuring adherence to federal regulations and company policies
- Educate employees and leaders on proactive health strategies and compliance, crafting a shared dedication to health and wellness throughout the organization
- Advocate for occupational health innovation, driving ongoing improvement and ensuring programs evolve to meet organizational and regulatory standards
- Collaborate closely with diverse collaborators to ensure employees can confidently and safely contribute to the success of CPKC’s railway operations
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Diploma in Nursing or baccalaureate degree in Nursing
- Current registration with College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta, (CARNA), Nurse Practitioner Association of Alberta, (NPAA), College or Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta, (CLPNA)
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Nurse in a clinical setting is required and experience in the field of occupational health or disability case management is preferred
- Strong understanding of Human Rights Legislation, Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, Workers Compensation, Privacy legislation and other related Federal regulations (U.S. and Canada) will be given a preference
- Post graduate training related to Occupational Health/Clinical Case Management (e.g. Occupational Health Nursing Certificate) will be given a preference

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
