PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Program Specialist for Locomotive Overhaul Programs, you will lead the multi‑year planning strategy to ensure the locomotive fleet remains compliant with all maintenance and regulatory requirements. In this role, you will be responsible for developing the annual overhaul scope and schedule across multiple CPKC facilities and third‑party vendor locations. Your leadership will be critical in coordinating long‑term program needs, optimizing shop capacity, and supporting the reliability and availability of the fleet.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develop, maintain and update 5 year locomotive engine overhaul plan
  • Register and maintain Environmental Protection Agency Emissions data for all loose locomotive engines shipped to CPKC
  • Plan, coordinate, direct and follow up on locomotive movement to and from CPKC and third party shops for overhaul
  • Plan, coordinate, direct and follow up on locomotive overhaul material deliveries to CPKC facilities to meet Overhaul Schedules.
  • Maintain, adjust and update locomotive engine overhaul capital project tracker daily with all required changes to scope, schedule or locomotive numbers
  • Develop and create annual locomotive engine overhaul capital plan / scope and budget

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or general equivalency
  • 5 years’ experience of railroad operations with strong background with locomotives
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong understanding of SAP, Locomotive Maintenance User Interface and Locomotive Management Planning and railroad network
  • Strong communication skills (provide clear and concise instructions/directions)
  • Ability to drill down, understand root cause and resolve complex issues
  • Excellent focus, attention to detail and ability to multitask
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft suite programs, Excel, Word, Power Point, able to create, modify, and update reports for presentation to senior management

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
