Please note: This position will be based out of Calgary, AB. Depending on the successful candidate, consideration will be given to individuals located in Toronto, ON as well. Applications will be accepted from both locations.

 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Senior Enterprise Architect, you will be responsible for working with highly skilled enterprise architects to develop and deliver Enterprise Architecture strategies, roadmaps and artefacts that direct action. The individual will be responsible for working with business and IS leaders in strategy, architecture, and road mapping sessions to produce and govern the overall IS roadmap.

 

Reporting to the Managing Director of Enterprise Architecture and Innovation you will be a key participant in developing enterprise architecture practice that drives technology modernization and optimization strategies. This position will have responsibility for developing strategies and roadmaps and making decisions and recommendations in certain enterprise architecture domains clearly aligned with the overall enterprise architecture strategies.

 

The individual in this role should have a strong background in Enterprise Architecture, Technology Delivery and Architecture, People leadership. You will also be expected to have a results-oriented mindset, passion for innovation and drive to foster an environment of continuous improvement.

 

 POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of strategic business strategy and plans and seek ways to apply new and emerging technology to assist CP in achieving its business goals and strategies;
  • Develop and maintain an aspirational architectural road map for the enterprise. Monitor progress towards this roadmap and identify changes to initiatives/projects as needed to achieve it;
  • Drive IS strategy development, including environmental analysis, opportunity identification, value cases and business innovation portfolio development;
  • Develop enterprise architecture; including business, information/application, and technology architectures;
  • Identify opportunities for the development of cross-functional solutions that combine knowledge of the target business architecture, general technological options, and process facilitation techniques;
  • Conduct architecture project reviews to ensure enterprise wide information and technology standards are enforced when designing the future-state of business processes and alignment to architecture roadmap;
  • Provide guidelines for the business analysts on business architecture roadmap and methods;
  • Provide architectural direction to Domain and Solution Architects;
  • Provide architecture guidance and direction to IS and Business leads as needed to ensure alignment between business goals and the overall IS portfolio;
  • Work with the Portfolio management team to ensure that all proposed projects remain aligned with the overall business, information and infrastructure roadmaps.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, technology;
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in Information Technology roles of increasing complexity of leadership;
  • 10+ years of hands on experience and working knowledge in enterprise architecture; 
  • Certification and experience in architectural design and common industry frameworks (TOGAF, DODAF, EACOE, ZIF, etc.);
  • Estimate the impact of architecture alternatives — both financial and nonfinancial;
  • Demonstrated ability to drive scalable technology solutions that deliver business results;
  • Designing and constructing business processes, functions and organizational structures;
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills; ability to create original concepts for a variety of projects;
  • Developing and monitoring delivery of efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems;
  • Ability to analyze and balance the needs of project delivery with the needs of the overall enterprise; both in the short and long term;
  • Ability to work with business stakeholders to modify business practices to take full advantage of technology innovation;

  • Previous working knowledge of transportation and logistics industry and specifically railroad industry;

Extensive knowledge and experience in 3 or more of following Architecture domains:

  • Application development architecture leveraging modern multi-experience development platforms in multi-cloud environments. Skills should include service-oriented architecture, web and mobile development, micro services and API development, database design, application integration, UI design and development, BPM/workflow design, business rules / decision management, Rapid Application tools, Agile and DevOps. Application, component, and/or service development with C++, C#, Java, Python or similar
  • Artificial Intelligence architecture leveraging modern AI platforms in multi-cloud environment. Skills should include Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, AI Integration, AI application development tools and languages, Extensive experience in cloud technologies, ideally Azure and/or AWS; strong knowledge of data science, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning;
  • Information/Data architecture and Analytics leveraging modern data management and analytical platforms in multi-cloud environments. Skills should include Data modeling, Data Lakes and Data Warehousing, Information Life Cycle Management (Data Capture, ETL, Data Archiving), Master data management, Metadata Management, Data Quality,Data Governance, Business Intelligence, Descriptive, Prescriptive, and Predictive Analytics, Data Science, Data Visualization, Machine Learning and AI. Lead, define and implement end-to-end modern data platforms in support of analytics and AI use cases. Address aspects such as data privacy & security, data ingestion & processing, data storage & compute, analytical & operational consumption, data modeling, data virtualization, self-service data preparation & analytics, AI enablement, and API integrations
  • Integration Architecture leveraging modern integration platforms in multi-cloud environments. Skills should include data integration, B2B and A2A integration, API development and management, business process automation and integration, event management and integration, business rules management.
  • Network and Infrastructure architecture leveraging modern network and infrastructure platforms in multi-cloud environment. Skills should include architecting, configuring, and sizing datacenters, IaaS, containers, virtualization, servers, storage, networks, storage, operating systems, connectivity, firewalls, security, end user devices, operation management, DevOps.
  • SaaS, and SAP ERP skills and experience in multi-cloud environment. Skills should include in-depth knowledge of SaaS and SAP ECC and SAP S4 architecture including evaluation, migration, configuration, and integration of SaaS and SAP ERP solutions.
