PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Canadian Pacific’s Internal Audit department is seeking an experienced Senior Operations Auditor to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to join an internal audit function that is progressing its journey to add value to the business.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting operations audits independently and objectively in accordance with Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Standards while also supporting multiple projects and priorities, and ensuring effective communication of results and recommendations to Management.

 

As a Senior Operations Auditor, you will be working in a team environment with the broader Internal Audit team designing and executing procedures on audits that range from: operations audit, vendor audit, contract compliance audit, and others. This role works on a portfolio of operations audits as well as other audit/advisory projects performed at the request of the Board and Management.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Plan and execute operations audits as well as other audits (vendor and contract compliance audits);
  • Conduct all phases of the audit which may include detailed risk assessments, development of audit scope and objectives, development and execution of audit program, identification of process improvements, and documentation of audit observations;
  • Lead and/or perform as a team member, audit activities including managing the operations audits and other audit projects, ensuring audit quality, maintaining audit documentation as per IIA and department standards;
  • Identify operational risks and make recommendations to manage risks;
  • Identify opportunities to improve the operating effectiveness of business processes;
  • Test for compliance with relevant laws/regulations and CP policies and procedures;
  • Write clear and concise audit reports with value-added recommendations that mitigate risks and are practical;
  • Present audit reports to Management at various levels and obtain pinpointed action plans that address identified business risks;
  • Follow-up with Management to ensure timely implementation of management action plans;
  • Maintain objectivity and independence while fostering positive and professional relationships with Management;
  • Develop and apply knowledge of the railroad and industry/CP specific processes and technologies;

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong operations experience
  • Experience in the railroad industry or other similar industry is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 – 7 years of experience in an auditing role or operations role with established analytical, investigative, problem-solving, and root cause identification skills
  • Experience as a locomotive engineer or a conductor is preferred. Qualification in a related field (mechanical or electrical engineering) would be an asset
  • University degree in engineering, finance, supply chain or other relevant field
  • Proven ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional time management, project management, and organizational skills
  • Strong Interpersonal skills to manage business relationships with various levels of management
  • Regulatory compliance experience would be an asset
  • Relevant professional designation would be an asset
  • Experience with a data analysis software would be an asset
  • ERP/SAP expertise would be an asset

Management Conductor Program:
