PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Are you an electrical professional eager to launch your career in a dynamic, hands-on environment? Join CPKC as a Signal Drafter and play a vital role in shaping the future of railway infrastructure. In this position, you will be responsible for creating detailed Signal and Communication (S&C) system circuit designs, drawings, and test plans that meet all relevant industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies. Your expertise will contribute to the safe and efficient operation of railway systems, covering areas such as wayside signal systems, Positive Train Control (PTC), wayside detection systems, crossing warning systems, hump yard process control systems, and Automatic Equipment Identification (AEI) systems. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develop comprehensive S&C signal system circuit designs, drawings, and test plans, ensuring full compliance with operating rules, recommended design practices, established policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare detailed Bill of Materials (BOM) to support the procurement process and facilitate the timely acquisition of all necessary equipment for each project
  • Provide technical expertise and support throughout the commissioning phase of signal design projects, ensuring successful project implementation and system integration
  • Utilize S&C CAD systems to create, review, and modify signal system designs, maintaining a high level of accuracy and adherence to project specifications
  • Ensure all designs and processes meet Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Transport Canada regulatory requirements, upholding stringent safety and operational standards
  • Manage and track design documents and files within the OpenText plan database, maintaining accurate records and version control throughout the project lifecycle

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency; Post Secondary diploma in electronic technology is preferred
  • Valid driver’s license
  • 1-5 years of railroad experience
  • Proficient knowledge of S&C equipment, signals principals, standards and regulatory requirements
  • Interpersonal skills, in both verbal and written interactions

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety-sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
