PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The IS team coordinates with a central Enterprise Architecture team dedicated to both business and IT.  Each IS department possess Solution Architects as a dedicated architecture function which performs the Solution Architect role with specific emphasis on the department acting as the bridge between the Enterprise Architects and the service teams.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for the adoption of solution architecture and standards on projects in the BIA team, in concert with the principles of Enterprise Architecture methodology and designs.
  • Collaborates with Enterprise Architecture in discussion reviews, as a Business Intelligence and Analytics Subject Matter Expert, and helps guide and implement Data Governance initiatives.
  • Provides input to the Enterprise Architecture team for the consideration of alternatives and new options for IS Architecture standards and methodology.
  • Collaborates with various stakeholders to determine requirements and ensure that all solutions that are designed, developed and/or acquired, comply with IS architectural standards and directions, creating high-level product specifications and design documents as required.
  • Manages BIA architectural activities that take place during solution conceptualization, solution design, and solution implementation, including oversight and implementation support.
  • Reviews business context for solutions to project initiatives or opportunities, as well as defining the options and requirements for the solution, with recommendations for the most optimal option.
  • Directs the identification and recommendation of appropriate solutions (including proof-of-concept), upgrades, replacements, or decommissioning options that best incorporate business and technology productivity, usability, and total cost of ownership.
  • Guides IS projects so that deliverables support the stated roadmap, and provides the development team with architectural blueprints to follow.
  • Understands how to secure and manage data, by providing analysis of security protection technologies as required.
  • Influences others to apply quality data management methods to reduce duplication, maintain data integrity and apply records management processes (as appropriate).
  • Provides guidance and strategic advice on data focused initiatives.
  • Understand how advanced and streaming analytics compliment business analytics and how they can be integrated at a conceptual level.
  • Works on IS projects with high technical complexity.
  • Leads API strategy / roadmap initiatives while aligning with business objectives.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with equally strong presentation skills to communicate the complexities of technical programs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Technically creative and open-minded
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience related to IS Management or other information technology solutions architecture role (roadmap in line with the corporate objectives).
  • Strong technical skills in data modeling, data engineering, process modeling, data security, data reference, data analytics and data governance.
  • Proficiency with information technologies in a secure network environment.
  • Proficient in data visualization software such as Qlik, SAC etc.
  • Recent experience with many database systems and patterns, including:
    • Big data patterns – including event-driven, IoT, and data lake architectures;
    • Oracle, SQL Server, SAP eHana – advanced querying methods, performance tuning, and data virtualization;
    • Data modelling – Star, Snowflake, and Relational;
    • NoSQL familiarity.
  • Knowledge of standard ETL patterns and performance considerations – replication patterns, Informatica, AWS Glue, load balance between database and application.
  • Knowledge of APIs  and containers: Spring Boot, Swagger, Open API, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.,
  • Knowledge in API management, design, implementation and system integration using APIs.
  • Familiarity with AWS architecture principles – least privileges, server less components, and EC2.
