PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The IS team provides AWS cloud development for multiple solutions across CP.  The Business Intelligence (BI) team has AWS solutions including real-time data processing, on premise integrations, custom web applications, chatbots, and EC2-hosted applications.  The BI team is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting AWS solutions that provide data integrations to other IS applications and applications directly for use by end-users at CP.  This role will be responsible for working with Solution Architects, Business Analysts, and other members of the business to develop, deliver, and support AWS solutions primarily using serverless components.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for development in AWS using multiple serverless components;
  • Responsible for maintaining a least-privileges approach to security;
  • Responsible for monitoring usage to reduce compute costs;
  • Responsible for maintaining and supporting the application and related data processes in a production environment;
  • Develops applications following standards set by and for the team, including promotion standards, naming standards, integrations standards, documentation standards, and code repository standards;
  • Collaborates closely with project teams, including Business Analysts, Solution Architects, Project Managers, Application Developers, and BI Developers;
  • Collaborates closely with operational teams, including DBAs, Service Operations Center, BI developers, and SAP developers;
  • Collaborates with other members of the BI team to provide and receive peer reviews of all AWS production deployments;
  • Collaborates with solution architects and other developers to recommend best-practices approach to AWS service use, development, deployment, and production monitoring;
  • Sustainment responsibilities can include:
    • Immediate incident resolution of application problems, performance problems, and integration problems;
    • Incident follow-up with root cause analysis;
    • Incident change release and dev/acceptance reconciliation;
  • Provides maintenance, as required, for all AWS services;
  • Provides 24/7 on call support in rotation for AWS support;
  • Understands the importance of secure data and maintains the confidentiality of CP data;
  • Maintains an awareness of upcoming trends cloud computing and serverless development;

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with multiple AWS services, including:
    • DynamoDB, Lambda, SQS, Glue, Kinesis, SNS, Cognito, AppSync, CloudFormation;
  • Experience with AWS development environments, including:
    • CDK, CLI, Amplify;
  • Experience with IDEs, with a preference for Visual Code;
  • Experience developing robust, scalable software using Python and JavaScript;
  • Experience working on projects with defined project management methodologies. Including experience with Jira;
  • Experience with database technologies, including , Oracle, SQL Server, NoSQL;
  • Experience designing and developing data reporting structures in data warehouses and data lakes;
  • Knowledge of implementation and on premise integration using APIs, Queues, FTP, and other integration software;
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Pays high attention to detail;
  • Ability to work under indirect supervision;
  • Effective interpersonal skills and collaborative working style;
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and defining logic from written architectural and business requirements documents;
  • Adaptable and flexible to a fast-paced work environment and shifting priorities and responsibilities;
  • Ability to provide 24/7 support while oncall;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience;
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in AWS development;
  • Knowledge of the Railway business will be an asset;
  • Experience in SAP BW, HANA, Business Objects will be an asset;
