PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The purpose of the role is to partner with key stakeholders within Sales & Marketing, Finance and Network Capacity to provide strategic analysis on our fuel programs as it relates to yield and profitability. The role will deliver a strategic vision and will provide leadership to create improving margins and to ensure sustainable profitable growth by proactively researching and creating fuel surcharge programs. The key is to provide timely consolidated analysis to share with senior leadership. The ideal candidate will be able to identify and collaborate with our partners to ensure CPKC continues to make the most profitable marketing and operational decisions.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide valued financial insights that shape corporate decisions in areas such as fuel tariff products, yield impacts and strategic corporate strategies that shapes revenue opportunities across North America
  • Partner with stakeholders, becoming a dependable financial expert that stakeholders can trust and rely on for strategic financial advice
  • Ensure consistent and reliable reporting of externally reported tariffs including process improvement to ensure data integrity and accurate reporting
  • Provide timely and accurate yield information and analysis to Sales and Marketing teams, detailing impacts to yield and profitability
  • Provide economic and financial recommendations for changes, including proactively identifying areas for margin improvement and working with operations on implementation of initiatives
  • Getting alignment to cross-functional stakeholders to assess the financial viability changes to fuel tariff products, understanding our network to drive meaningful revenue opportunities
  • Develop financial automated reports, articulate impacts operational decisions benchmarked to corporation’s profitability metrics
  • Become an expert in managing tariff pricing rates, continually look for improvements in the financial models and information systems and work closely with stakeholders to understand and implement changes that will drive business results

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree in Commerce/Finance, Economics or other relevant fields
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a finance or economic role
  • Strong modelling, qualitative and quantitative analytical skills using Excel or other business analysis systems
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity to identify root causes and solve complex problems
  • Strong organizational, time management, collaboration, and relationship management skills
  • Ability to bridge the gap between analytics and business understanding
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience sourcing and manipulating data from an ERP system
  • Experience in researching and including tariff and energy pricing analysis would be considered an asset

MANAGEMENT CONDUCTOR PROGRAM:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
