PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Specialist, Business Planning is responsible for day-to-day budgeting, monitoring, and reporting of key financial metrics in support of the Real Estate and Development team. The primary mandate of the role is to compile and deliver effective reporting related to Real Estate revenue targets and agreement renewals, as well as Industrial Development capital and expense projects, including agreement renewals. The secondary mandate is to support the establishment of performance targets, monitor forecasted outcomes, and identify and communicate variances from plan.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Support the creation of project budgets and schedules, ensuring appropriate processes are established to monitor progress and report results
- Support the development of real estate revenue plans, monitor results, and prepare ongoing financial and performance reporting
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations of revenue, capital, and expense accounts
- Gather and maintain key information for Real Estate and Industrial Development agreements
- Perform SAP, BPC, and Excel data entry, including responding to time-sensitive reporting and data requests
- Provide data from SAP and planning reports to support business requirements.
- Coach or train team members on basic SAP functionality as required
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to compile the status of real estate initiatives and development projects
- Maintain rolling forecast reporting, communicating performance and variances against established targets
- Maintain a working knowledge of best practices related to monitoring and reporting project and revenue performance
- Support recruitment, onboarding, management, training, and development of team personnel to ensure continuous coverage, manage a dynamic workload, and drive continuous improvement
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Post-secondary education in Business, Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or Project Management is considered a strong asset
- Minimum 5 years of combined experience in one or more of the following areas: financial planning, accounting, engineering, project management, project controls, construction, and railway operations
- Strong negotiation and conflict management skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and align on common objectives
- Solid understanding of financial analysis processes and tools, including accounting treatment, reconciliations, accruals, investment analysis, commercial terms, and operating margins
- Proficiency in SAP, BPC, and Excel, including accurate data entry, data queries, and analysis of large data sets
- Understanding of portfolio-level project delivery tools and processes, including scoping, estimating, scheduling, and budgeting techniques and software
- Ability to set priorities, manage deadlines, and deliver work efficiently and effectively in a dynamic environment

Management Conductor Program
