PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Specialist Control Systems is responsible for the development and support of on-board control systems as part of CPKC’s hydrogen locomotive program. This includes programming of systems responsible for leading the integration of zero-emission components such as, but not limited to: traction batteries, fuel cells, and associated power electronics.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Support all mechanical, electrical development and testing work on the hydrogen locomotive
- Coordinate the implementation and installation of hydrogen locomotive specific technologies
- Propose new processes and technologies to enhance hydrogen locomotive development
- Responsible for writing clear, concise, and informative reports intended for high-level management
- Document work, interact with electrical team collaborators, and follow established software development principles
- Participate in and support with field testing of the locomotives in addition to working with vendors to integrate CPKC’s control system with their existing systems and components
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or general equivalency
- Valid driver’s license
- 3 years' experience in PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programming and industrial control systems hardware and software from major brands such as Allen-Bradley or Siemens
- 3 years' experience with designing, commissioning, or troubleshooting electrical and control systems, including PLCs, low-voltage signals, networking, industrial sensors, induction motors, VFD (Variable Frequency Drive), or similar
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java C, or VBA (Visual Basic Applications), as well as web development utilizing CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics), and animation, candidates with 1 years' experience preferred
- Experience with HMI (Human Machine Interface) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems such as Ignition, candidates with 1 years' experience preferred

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Medical and Drug Testing
This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
