PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Specialist Engineering Labour Relations you will support Engineering with Labour issues, including handling of formal responses to the union(s), guidance on the collective agreement(s), administration of the collective agreement(s), unionized expense auditing, labour research/analysis and preparation of labour related reports.  This position will also support the Bid-Award team and the emergency/urgent call-out process.

 

 POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist operations with handling of formal responses to issues raised by the union(s);
  • Provide guidance on the collective agreement(s);
  • Oversee the administration of key provisions collective agreement(s) relating to expenses and position stability;
  • Audit unionized expenses;
  • Conduct labour research/analysis;
  • Prepare labour related reports;
  • Support the unionized job bid-award processes relating to bulletin; preparation/distribution, award processing and notification, maintenance of seniority rosters, layoff notices, recall, etc;
  • Support the emergency/urgent callouts of unionized employees;
  • Establish constructive relationships with union leadership;
  • And other related duties as required.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Industrial/Labour Relations, or equivalent;
  • Two years of direct or related experience in Labour Relations, particularly handling of labour issues;
  • Good understanding of the interpretation and application of collective agreements;
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proven quantitative/analytical skills, with strong attention to detail;
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively cross functionally, including developing effective and positive relationships from the front line employee to senior management;
  • Demonstrate managerial leadership skills, including Team management skills;
  • Ability to work with established processes and to develop new streamlined processes;
  • Influencing skills with peers and coaching skills with subordinates and other Engineering staff;
  • Ability to exhibit exceptional patience, balance with strong, proactive approach to get things done and continuous improvement of CP core principles;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel);
  • Familiar with SAP systems.

Management Conductor Program:
