PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Specialist Income Tax will assist with various aspects of the tax function, including income tax planning initiatives, income tax accounting, income tax compliance and income tax audits. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assist with the implementation and reporting of Canadian and international corporate tax strategies, including preparing step memos, performing research and analysis of tax considerations, liaising with Treasury, and coordinating with Accounting and Legal
- Assist with the preparation of domestic and international tax compliance filings including Canadian corporate income tax returns and tax information returns
- Assist with preparation and analysis of relevant tax calculations including safe income, adjusted cost base, foreign affiliate surplus, Pillar 2 computations, and other tax related calculations
- Support the US tax group in meeting their reporting and compliance obligations as needed
- Assist with gathering supporting documentation for, and preparing responses to, government audit queries
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual Canadian tax provision calculations
- Assist with the preparation of return to provision calculations and work with accounting to ensure provisions are timely and accurately booked
- Work with internal departments to gather data and timely prepare country by country reporting documentation as required by relevant tax authorities
- Establish and maintain well-documented files to support tax compliance and planning initiatives
- Liaise with internal teams on ad hoc tax matters as required
- Continually review tax legislative changes for possible impact to CPKC
- Assist with integration of legacy CP and legacy KCS tax functions
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Accounting, or other relevant fields
- Recognized accounting designation (CPA/CA/CMA/CGA)
- Minimum two to five years corporate tax experience required; some foreign affiliate tax experience is an asset
- Completed (or substantially advanced) the CPA In-Depth Tax course
- Experience with the following considered an asset:
- TaxPrep software
- SAP
- Knowledge of US GAAP Accounting
