PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Specialist Network Car position implements and balances unscheduled car repairs across the system to maintain process fluidity, supports car repair, train servicing functions, metrics and reporting. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills with the ability to make concise decisions.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Handles database, incident reports and issues management reports in support of business needs
  • Supports the customer reject process working directly with the field teams and customer support team ensuring appropriate identification of car bad order reasons
  • Handles car setoff process working with the operation center, transportation department and mechanical repair facilities
  • Assist engineering with projects and interactions with foreign roads as the needs arises
  • Manages on line high idle bad order cars along with the billing and movement of the cars
  • Owns the email inbox and provides information to field operations

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2 years’ college degree or an equivalent to any other 2 year post secondary schooling in a mechanical aspect
  • 5 years’ experience in industry inspecting railcars or show strength in railcar maintenance and repair
  • Must meet Transport Canada and CPKC’s criteria for a certified Rail Car Apprentice or Mechanic and have thorough knowledge of transport Canada/FRA regulations
  • Strong communication skills (provide clear and concise instructions/directions)
  • Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Strong risk evaluation skills

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
