PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
As a Specialist of Train Dynamics at CPKC, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of our train systems. This multifaceted position involves deep technical analysis, innovative design practices, strategic optimization, and real-world application of advanced engineering principles related to train dynamics. You will be responsible for understanding and improving the dynamic behavior of trains, which includes examining how trains interact with the track, respond to operational controls, and perform under varying environmental conditions.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Conduct detailed analyses of train dynamics using computational models and simulations to understand performance characteristics under various operating conditions
- Implement and oversee monitoring systems to continuously assess the dynamic behavior of trains, identify potential issues, and recommend corrective actions
- Derailment analysis and interpretation of various sources of information for root cause analysis and corrective action recommendations
- Ensure all train dynamic studies and implementations comply with relevant safety standards and regulations; recommend and develop improved operating practices based on analytical results
- Work closely with operations teams to ensure integrated solutions for train performance
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations detailing findings, recommendations, and implemented solutions
- Support and develop strategies to enhance energy efficiency through dynamic performance improvements
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in train dynamics and contribute to R&D projects aimed at innovating and improving rail systems
- Provide training and guidance to junior engineers and other team members on concepts and best practices related to train dynamics
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering or similar discipline
- Locomotive engineering and conductor qualification will be required including active quarterly deployment rotations in operations
- Must have strong mechanics understanding and demonstrated experience in numerical modelling and analysis of mechanical systems
- Must have demonstrated experience in project management, scheduling, planning, and execution
- Must be able to execute projects autonomously and independently
- Must be able to maintain a positive and respectful high performance team environment
- Experience with train design and handling is an asset
