PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

  • Receive, warehouse, issue or ship supplies and material utilized in the operation of the railroad;
  • Assist the Process Coordinator/Procurement/Operations Supervisor in coordinating day-to-day operations and special projects as required;
  • Perform accurate and timely information in SAP system electronically through the use of a computer terminal;
  • Act as liaison for the shop Management, Mechanical Procurement Staff, Store Person(s) ensuring that work assignments are completed in a safe and efficient manner;
  • Coordinate picking and shipping of all material to customer locations in accordance with shipping schedules.

 

 POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Perform authorized functions necessary to receive and issue material, either manually or electronically on a computer terminal. This could include maintaining bin locations, entering stock counts, etc;
  • Identify and verify accuracy of shipments of material received from suppliers, shops and other stores;
  • Store material in the appropriate warehouse location either manually or with the use of appropriate material handling equipment;
  • Perform accurate counts of material received, issued, shipped or on hand;
  • Issue required material to appropriate users according to requisitions which may be received in either paper or electronic form;
  • Pack and prepare material for shipment. This includes completing all related forms such as labels, postal forms, waybills, shipping and custom documents, etc.
  • Load/Unload materials from or in to, trailers, and trucks, and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit, using appropriate equipment.
  • Reconcile stock count discrepancies and performs bin maintenance including the coordination of bin audits.
  • Coordinate all activity pertaining to material requirements for units/cars held, material allocation, and shipments.
  • Submit requests for third party trucking requirements;
  • Coordinate materials to be picked and loaded in accordance with shipping schedules;
  • Compile and send Bills of Lading by electronic mail to Customers for all outbound shipments.
  • Research and reconcile shipping and receiving discrepancies;
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound 3rd party sales material;
  • Operate forklift truck, electric hoist or other material handling equipment to assist in loading/unloading or moving materials and products as required;
  • May be required to drive highway motor vehicle to pick up and/or deliver material;
  • Perform daily inspection of vehicles he/she may operate in order to ensure they are in safe operating condition. Hazards are to be immediately reported to the appropriate Supervisor for corrective action.
  • Ensures Government WHMIS and TDG regulations are followed when receiving, issuing and shipping material;
  • By use of a computer terminal, enters all necessary transactions into SAP.
  • Accurately complete documents required for the Stores' functions, either manually or electronically;
  • Responsible for respective work area cleanliness and hazard free;
  • Ensures material is properly stored and secured at all times.

 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent;
  • Successful completion of secondary education or equivalent work experience considered an asset;
  • Must possess thorough knowledge or experience of warehouse operations;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, Word etc.) and SAP Material Management module;
  • Basic knowledge of on-line computer terminal operations;
  • May be required to work outdoors in all weather and must come to work prepared with proper clothing;
  • Ability to perform work in a safe manner;
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 kg after having received instructions and training; and up to 45 kg after having received training and written instructions;
  • Select material required by users. May have to use material handling equipment;
  • Must wear personal protective equipment, as required, i.e. hard hat, safety glasses, safety boots, and gloves;
  • Must have valid driver’s license;
  • Must be available to work various or irregular shifts;
  • Organizational & Time Management skills with proven ability to prioritize and multi-task;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
