PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Supervisor Bid Award will support the Engineering union staffing needs in the field through the Engineering Bid Award process, including maintenance of seniority lists, emergency/urgent call-outs, and conduct labour research as needed.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Manage the bid award process/application;
  • Prepare job bulletins of positions requested and approved by field managers for posting;
  • Collect/organize bids;
  • Prepare awards and obtain approvals from field managers for posting;
  • Adhere to by the bid award schedule for all stakeholders;
  • Report on data errors as they arise and help identify process improvements;
  • Maintain/update seniority lists;
  • Execute the layoff and recall process as required for seasonal/temporary employees;
  • Coordinate/perform callouts for emergency and non-emergency workforce needs;
  • Retrieve, organize, validate and summarize labour data (seniority, training, return to work, seat stability, mileage allowances, etc.);
  • Establish constructive relationships with field managers, unionized employees and union leadership;
  • Other related duties as required.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED Equivalent required; post-secondary diploma is an asset;
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in the advanced use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly MS Excel;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Working knowledge of SAP applications;
  • Ability to pay attention to detail;
  • Ability to understand and process information from various groups;
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of people from the front line-employee to senior management with courtesy and integrity;
  • Ability to work with established processes and to develop new processes;
  • Proven ability to work well with others on an individual, team and project basis;
  • Ability to exhibit exceptional patience, balance with strong, proactive approach to get things done and continuous improvement of CP core principles;
  • Understanding of railway field operations is an asset;
  • Understanding of collective agreements is an asset.

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CP. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
