PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As Director Track and Structures, you will ensure safe, reliable infrastructure and cost-effective engineering services for all track assets on the geographic territory to permit the safe and efficient train operation.  You will directly provide or ensure professional oversight and compliance with corporate policy and regulatory/engineering standards.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide oversight and ensure regulatory compliance for the geographic territory to maintain safe infrastructure
  • Ensure CPKC safety practices are followed by all direct reports
  • Deliver expected safety, compliance, service, and financial results, and implement work process improvements
  • Develop and execute annual safety plans
  • Manage emergency response to service interruptions and seasonal plans for winter, flood, and fire
  • Work consistent with labor agreements
  • Maintain cross-functional relationships and clear communication among direct reports
  • Oversee current year execution and advise on capital planning priorities
  • Coach direct reports to improve effectiveness, implement performance plans, and support career development
  • Investigate train accidents on main track and sidings, filing causes promptly
  • Ensure infrastructure damage costs are reported per Transport Canada regulations

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess an Engineering Degree (exceptions may be made for non-university graduates with sufficient experience and proven performance in railroad engineering)
  • 10 years of industrial or construction experience or 5 years of experience in the maintenance of railway physical plant, with a solid understanding of track maintenance, track renewal, structures maintenance, and signals & communications
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and financial statements
  • Proven ability to apply relevant knowledge and technical skills to ensure compliance with CPKC policies, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Capability to develop and manage project plans and schedules
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently and ensure the achievement of key performance metrics during both emergency and non-emergency operations
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence peers, cross-functional co-managers, and the executive leadership team
  • Ability to analyze root causes and resolve complex issues effectively

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

 

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company or regulated drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
