PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As a valued member of CPKC's Engineering team, the Supervisor, Track Inspection (Inspector) plays an essential role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and integrity of the track infrastructure within a designated geographic territory. This position is responsible for delivering efficient engineering services and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards to support seamless and efficient train operations. The successful candidate will bring technical expertise, effective leadership, and a proactive approach to maintaining infrastructure performance, addressing potential risks, and contributing to the overall success of CPKC's rail network.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Deliver and maintain regulatory compliance across a designated geographic territory, as required by federal and industry regulations, ensuring a safe and reliable infrastructure for train operations
  • Enforce adherence to CPKC safety practices, policies, and procedures, ensuring unionized employees operate in a safe and compliant manner while fostering a culture of workplace safety
  • Conduct track inspections at required intervals, compiled accurate records, and addressed exceptions through timely corrective actions, mitigating safety risks and ensuring operational reliability
  • Verify that all maintenance performed within the assigned territory adhered to current standards and regulatory requirements, ensuring track safety for authorized train speeds or initiating protective measures when necessary
  • Direct maintenance activities aligned with selective renewal plans for various track components, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of track infrastructure
  • Set daily work priorities and objectives for unionized crews, making recommendations to the Roadmaster for strategic planning and ensuring efficient resource allocation
  • Provide on-call support and response on a rotational basis to manage incidents and emergencies, maintaining continuous 24/7 operations and effectively addressing urgent situations

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or general equivalency
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Over 2 years of hands-on experience working in basic and/or principal track maintenance, particularly in main terminal areas
  • Over 2 years of experience as a Foreman or Supervisor, successfully managing and leading large work crews in the execution of complex track maintenance and repair projects
  • 1-2 years + years of experience operating various track machines, with a consistent track record of maximizing productivity and ensuring operational safety.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in interpreting and applying relevant track standards and practice circulars to maintain safety, efficiency, and compliance in railway operations

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

 

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
