PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

CP is seeking a mid-career, experienced professional to develop and lead our growing natural environment permitting team in the US. This leader will apply their experience in environmental permitting and relationship building to help ensure CP’s proposed projects move forward in a timely manner.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead the team responsible for conducting Environmental Assessments and securing environmental permits and approvals in the US while seeking ways to reduce consultant costs; 
  • Develop and lead the implementation of strategies to reduce CP’s environmental permitting requirements and costs;
  • Develop and lead the building of relationships with key environmental regulators including the US Army Corp of Engineers, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Surface Transportation Board Office of Environmental Analysis and the Environmental Protection Agency;
  • Analysis and the Environmental Protection Agency;.
  • Engage and lead technical consultants so that projects (necessary to ensuring safe railway operations and keeping our commitments to customers) remain on schedule and budget;
  • Interact with internal Project Managers and Project Sponsors during project planning to ensure that environmental requirements and timelines are captured during early project phases and commitments to customers and other stakeholders can be maintained;
  • Represent CP and exercise judgement in discussions and negotiations with regulatory authorities regarding railroad environmental issues;
  • Lead the evaluation process for environmental risks associated with CP projects as well as third party projects on CP property;
  • Direct environmental consultants engaged to complete technical studies on behalf of CP and ensure that their work meets CP technical requirements as well as schedule and budget requirements.
  • Develop the technical and leadership skillsets of the members of the US environmental assessment team.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences or a related discipline;
  • Excellent knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements as they apply to federally regulated railroads;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and concepts;
  • Good decision making and problem solving abilities;
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of Applications;
  • Ability to lead and direct a team of professionals and technical consultants;
  • Flexibility and the ability to assess situations quickly, develop solutions and take corrective action is critical;
  • Influence and persuasion skills;
  • Ability to see an issue from another party’s point of view and suggest outcomes which will be mutually beneficial;
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) considered an asset

Management Conductor Program:
