PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

This position coordinates and constructs assigned KCS track projects and is responsible to ensure schedules are set for timely execution, materials and gangs are in place to complete projects, and quality construction standards and specifications set by KCS and governing bodies are met. This position manages the budget and departmental operations to ensure construction projects are completed on target.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manages the assigned capital improvement projects for CPKC
  • Handles engineering and construction issues of new infrastructure (e.g., new siding or new yard, new rail and associated grades)
  • Manages engineers, assigned to construction projects and outside consultants hired for construction projects
  • Assures quality standards set by governmental agencies, FRA and CPKC are met
  • Coordinates CPKC construction projects, including monitoring schedules, contracts, budgets, and Purchase Orders to ensure compliance with CPKC standards and polices
  • Assists in developing projects and budgets as well as schedules to meet deadlines
  • Assists with the design and development of engineering plans and specifications for company track expansion projects
  • Ensures compliance with CPKC safety policies, conducts safety reviews of contractors, ensures construction projects are run with a “Safety First” attitude
  • Coordinates construction and safety compliance activities (CPKC management and union employees as well as contractors)
  • Meets with local or state government officials for permitting, coordination of closures with city and state department, and signage
  • Manages logistics to ensure staff has appropriate labor and material to design and carry out projects
  • Meets with internal customers regarding expectations and standards for specific construction projects
  • Coordinates management of shared resources and equipment among contractors

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job-related major field of study
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant professional experience, including leading and managing projects or programs with outcome-focused deliverables, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certifications & Licensures PE or Architectural license
  • Five years experience Construction management or railroad construction experience is preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
