PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Provides oversight and direction to ensure the proper design, implementation, and administration of CPKC Operating safety programs, policies, and procedures to support CPKC Safety Culture objectives.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Uses extensive knowledge of railroad operations to assess the level of compliance with all CPKC and FRA safety rules and regulations
  • Provides guidance to a diversified Operations leadership team on both strategic and tactical efforts to improve safety incident reduction
  • Conducts regular risk assessments, incident drill downs, root cause analysis, audits to monitor and validate compliance with all safety initiatives
  • Participates as a member of the joint operational testing teams
  • Assists all Department leaders research, analysis, development of actions plans as necessary and incident response when necessary
  • Conducts thorough incident reviews, reenactments to determine the root-cause, corrective actions necessary for sustained improvements and perform operational efficiency testing
  • Exemplifies CPKC Vision, Core Values, and Culture in each and every interaction with team, clients, and stakeholders
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders in promoting and leading an increased level of safety accident prevention and regulatory compliance
  • Provide expertise/guidance in the development of specific functional safety programs
  • Actively participate in the investigation of serious safety incidents
  • Coordinate safety communication strategy
  • Audit safety performance of the functions
  • Ability to analyze safety data and use knowledge to guide actions

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant operations experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred
  • Post-secondary education, preferably in the safety field
  • Ability to capture change improvement opportunities and incorporate into policies and programs
  • Practical knowledge of internal and external programs and regulations, US and Canada
  • Strong multi-functional operations and safety background
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop solutions
  • Ability to earn credibility across respective functions
  • Strong leadership in sponsoring of policies/programs
  • Strong Administrative
  • Influence functional superintendents to ensure sustainability
  • Articulate best practices with other Class 1 railroads

Medical Requirements:

CPKC is committed to the safety and health of its employees and the general public.  This position is a safety sensitive position; all new hires will be required to complete a pre-employment medical that includes a physical, vision, hearing, alcohol, and drug audit assessments. Qualification drug test(s) are also required.

The successful candidate will need to successfully complete the following clearances:

  • Last 3 years of driving history
  • Last 7 years of employment history; includes military service
  • Social Security number verification

 

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
