Specialist Operating Practices
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Specialist Operating Practices will provide support to other stakeholders in the Operating Rules and Practices group. Maintaining/gaining knowledge of standard methodologies in training and regulatory requirements is critical to the success of this position.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provide detailed analysis of Train Accidents and Personal injuries
- Support CPKC submissions to CFR 240, CFR242 and CFR 217.9
- Assist in development and implementation of Operating Practices Standards
- Assist in maintaining Operating Rules, Practices including communicating revisions
- Collaborate with other departments to support Regulatory and Safety Programs and initiatives
- Perform train simulation and analytical assessment for safe movements of train
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Post-secondary education or related Railroad experience
- Technical Engineer or applied sciences; an asset
- Must hold current CFR 240 Certification
- DSLE designation preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Locomotive Engineer/Conductor
- Strong analytical abilities, with excellent team collaboration and communication skills
- Detailed knowledge of or readiness to learn federal standards
- Must be willing and able to travel
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and Locomotive Event Recorder software
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage projects
- Commitment to support critical operations 24/7, including on-call duties during off-hours, weekends, and holidays

Management Conductor Program:
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
