Specialist Hydrogen Locomotive Field Testing

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Specialist – Hydrogen Locomotive Field Testing is a key liaison between the engineering team and the implementation of hydrogen locomotive technology into regular operations.  They will be known as the local technical expert for training and maintenance or troubleshooting activities on these locomotives.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Field testing of hydrogen-powered locomotives, monitoring performance, reacting to changes in conditions, and documenting test results for review with engineering Support troubleshooting activities and repairs, training, and coordinate/perform regular maintenance and inspection tasks with local mechanical personnel
  • Coordinate hydrogen locomotive refueling and arrange with facility refueling staff to ensure adequate supply is maintained
  • Coordinate test and maintenance schedules with local operations and mechanical personnel

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, alternatively training in a related field may be considered if combined with relevant experience
  • 5-7 years in a field support/troubleshooting role
  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Valid passport with ability to travel to U.S./CAN without restrictions
  • Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills required
  • Knowledge of locomotive traction system; direct current/alternating current (DC/AC) and on-board locomotive equipment including, but not limited to: Air Brake, Distributed Power, Wi-Tronix, Positive Train Control, Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Knowledge of railroad operations and mechanical locomotive shops
  • Locomotive diesel mechanic and/or mechanical equipment background an asset
  • Knowledge of railroad operations and mechanical locomotive shops
  • Familiarity with zero-emissions technologies including batteries and fuel cells

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
