PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Lead a high-impact team responsible for safeguarding millions of dollars in railway revenue through the accurate management of car hire, non-freight invoicing, receivables, and financial reconciliation activities. This role combines operational leadership, strategic problem-solving, industry engagement, and talent development to enhance financial performance, improve efficiency, and support the continued growth and success of CPKC.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead the accurate and timely execution of car hire payables, receivables, claims, reclaims, TTX and RCH settlements, ensuring compliance with AAR Code of Car Hire Rules and resolving reconciliation issues with internal and external stakeholders
  • Oversee the timely and accurate invoicing, collections, dispute resolution, and reconciliation of Non-Freight receivables, including work orders, projects, joint facilities, and miscellaneous billings
  • Ensure financial accuracy and compliance through monthly forecasting, month-end close activities, journal entries, accruals, actuals postings, BlackLine reconciliations, and adherence to SOX and Integrated Controls Framework (ICF) requirements
  • Analyze financial and operational data, prepare management reports and key performance metrics, and support the resolution of audit findings, governmental reviews, and outstanding production issues
  • Drive continuous improvement through technology enhancements, process optimization, and cross-functional collaboration to improve efficiency, service levels, and production standards
  • Foster a high-performance culture by coaching and developing employees, providing constructive feedback, promoting accountability and urgency, and building leadership capability within the team

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Business, Accounting, or a related discipline required, with a CPA designation preferred; candidates actively working toward their CPA designation will also be considered and viewed as a strong asset for the role
  • Strong financial acumen with significant experience in account reconciliations, financial analysis, and applying sound business judgment to support operational and financial decisions
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills combined with a strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, and the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply Federal and State regulations, as well as industry requirements related to billable assets and financial transactions
  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents, and effectively communicate findings to various stakeholders
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams in unionized and non-unionized environments, including knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), coaching, employee development, and performance management expertise

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
