PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Manager Engineering Support provides leadership, coaching, and strategic direction to the Engineering Support team. This position oversees administrative processes, workforce support, reporting, compliance, and data management functions that enable effective Engineering field operations. The role partners closely with field leadership to drive efficient, standardized, and compliant processes, while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, automation, and operational effectiveness.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Lead, coach, and develop the Engineering Support Supervisor and team members to ensure effective delivery of departmental responsibilities and service standards
- Provide day-to-day guidance and escalation support while ensuring training, process consistency, and compliance requirements are maintained across the network
- Oversee timely and accurate processing of payroll, timekeeping, expenses, workforce administration, status transactions, and position changes for unionized employees in accordance with collective agreements and business requirements
- Standardize and continuously improve administrative and operational support processes to drive consistency, efficiency, compliance, and an improved employee and stakeholder experience
- Identify root causes of operational issues and implement sustainable corrective actions, process improvements, automation opportunities, and system enhancements
- Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of Engineering operational data, reports, dashboards, SAP transactions, and related system records
- Support material, production, workforce, discipline, and operational reporting requirements by reviewing data, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining CPKC dashboard updates
- Maintain SOX compliance and internal controls while serving as the subject matter expert for timekeeping, payroll, employee expenses, and workforce administration processes, including testing and implementation support for process or system changes
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Human Resources, Labour Relations, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered
- Minimum 5 years of railway experience, including at least 3 years supporting Engineering operations, track maintenance, or production activities
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience, including coaching, developing, and managing teams within a unionized environment
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel and Power BI, with strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to build relationships, collaborate effectively, and influence stakeholders at all levels
- Experience leading process improvement, business transformation, reporting, or administrative support functions, with the ability to implement sustainable solutions that improve efficiency and service delivery

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
