PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
As a Bridge Helper, you’re the key to keeping our railway bridges safe and operational. You’ll be responsible for opening and closing the spans for vessel traffic, performing basic maintenance, and ensuring everything runs smoothly day to day. It’s hands-on work in the great outdoors, where your attention to detail and commitment to safety help keep goods and people moving.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Log each bridge span movement with vessel name, time, date, and direction
- Perform routine maintenance on bridge components and equipment
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions including rain, snow, and direct sunlight
- Operate safely around heavy moving equipment in a safety-sensitive environment
- Use fall protection while working at heights on bridge structures
- Cover Saturday shifts and fill in for vacation or personal days as needed
- Be available seasonally and called in by seniority when required
- Train on and work at more than one bridge location
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Schedule is 4/3 with rest days on Friday, Saturday and Sunday
- High school diploma or general equivalency
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness to work flexible shifts and at heights
- Experience working outdoors in varying conditions
- Comfortable using radios and phones with strong English communication skills
- Skilled with common hand and power tools

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Medical and Drug Testing
This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company or regulated drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
